Professional Glove Break-in Mallet

CARE & MAINTENANCE

Wipe away dirt with a soft, dry cloth after play. Let the glove air-dry naturally away from direct heat. Store it with a ball in the pocket and condition sparingly with a glove-safe leather conditioner. Never machine wash or fully submerge the glove.

SHIPPING & RETURNS

Ready-to-ship items usually leave Miami in 1–2 business days and arrive in 3–5 business days. Custom builds are estimated at 6–8 weeks after your specifications are approved. Standard items may be returned within 30 days; custom and personalized products are final sale except for defects or rights required by law. Read shipping and returns.

The Mallet Carlos Uses at the Academy

A proper break-in mallet is heavier and more balanced than a standard wood mallet. The weight distribution matters — too light and you're not impacting leather fibers at the right depth; too heavy and you damage laces and leather around the pocket.

Kachi's break-in mallet is hardwood, weighted for proper impact distribution, and identical to the tool Carlos uses at the Kachi Baseball academy when prepping gloves for academy players.

How to Use It

  1. Place the glove pocket-up on a flat surface.
  2. With the mallet, strike the center of the pocket with firm, controlled impacts — 30–50 strikes on the first session.
  3. Alternate between pocket center and surrounding palm/heel areas.
  4. Work the finger stalls by placing the mallet head inside each stall and applying pressure.
  5. Rest the glove with a ball in the pocket for 24 hours.
  6. Repeat daily for 5–7 days.

Built With

Japanese Kip

Lightweight, responsive feel with clean structure.

Designed by pitchers. Tested in Miami.

Kachi was started by two former MLB pitchers — Julio Teherán, two-time All-Star with six consecutive Opening Day starts for the Atlanta Braves (tied with Warren Spahn), and Carlos Castillo, who pitched for the White Sox and Red Sox across an 18-season career that took him through Japan’s NPB and Taiwan’s CPBL — where Carlos learned how Japanese Kip performs at the professional level.

Every Kachi pattern is field-tested at Kachi Baseball, Carlos’s training academy in Miami, before it goes into production. Built with Japanese Kip for a lightweight, responsive feel and clean structure. Heritage-flag embroidery is included on custom builds. Lifetime craftsmanship guarantee.
